AgriScape Innovations Company Limited and EAST AFRICA YOUTH AGRO-INNOVATIONS (NGO) in partnership with East-West Seed, conducted a joint agricultural training programme on 8 October 2026 in Sangasanga and Kilosa, Morogoro, bringing together women and youth groups, local agripreneurs and smallholder farmers. The training provided an opportunity for participants to learn directly from agricultural professionals while sharing their own experiences, challenges and practical knowledge from the field. The sessions focused on strengthening farmers' capacity to turn agriculture into a more productive and sustainable business.
Bringing agricultural knowledge closer to farmers, the joint initiative forms part of AgriScape's commitment to providing practical agricultural extension services that respond to the real needs of farmers and agripreneurs. Rather than limiting training to classroom-based sessions, the programme emphasized learning by doing. Participants were engaged through discussions, practical demonstrations, farm visits and interaction with farmers in their own production environments. The approach allowed participants to connect technical recommendations with the realities they experience on their farms, including crop establishment, production practices, crop management and opportunities for improving farm profitability.
Farm visits and practical learning was a key component of the programme where participants observed agricultural practices directly and discuss them with trainers and fellow farmers. These visits created an informal learning environment where farmers could ask questions, identify production challenges and exchange ideas on possible solutions. For many of the women and youth participants, the experience demonstrated that agricultural extension is not simply about receiving information; it is about having continuous access to knowledge, technical support and practical guidance throughout the production cycle.
The programme also promoted the use of demonstration plots as Farm Field School (FFS) learning platforms. Through demonstration plots, farmers observed crop performance, compare production practices and gain practical experience before applying new techniques on their own farms. The FFS-centred approach encourages participants to learn collectively and make informed decisions based on what they see and experience in the field. The demonstration approach was particularly important for young agripreneurs who are increasingly looking at agriculture not only as a source of food, but also as a business and employment opportunity.
Women formed a significant part of the participants, alongside youth groups and other local agripreneurs. Their participation reflected the important role that women and young people play in agricultural production, household food security and the development of local agribusinesses. Through initiatives such as this, AgriScape and East-West Seed aimed to contribute to a stronger generation of farmers and agripreneurs who have the knowledge, confidence and practical skills needed to improve agricultural productivity and build viable enterprises.
The collaboration goes beyond a single training event. It provided an opportunity to strengthen a broader model of extension services, farmer training, demonstration plots and farm-based learning that can continue supporting farming communities after the training day. For AgriScape and EAST AFRICA YOUTH AGRO-INNOVATIONS NEXUS (NGO), partnerships with experienced agricultural organizations such as East-West Seed Company are an important part of its effort to make practical, accessible and market-oriented agricultural knowledge available to farmers, women and youth.
