The origin of AgriScape Innovations Company Limited (ASI Co. Ltd.) dates back to 2019, when the founding idea was conceived by three graduates of Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA), from the College of Agriculture (CoA), Department of Crop Science and Horticulture (DCSH). The founders Mr. Krisogon Vitalis Shayo, Mr. Andrea M. Kigeso, and Mr. Mpombeye Cleophace were classmates pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture General. At that time, the team envisioned establishing COCO-AGRI COMPANY LIMITED (CACL), a long-term agribusiness investment focused on the production of coco peat for agricultural applications. The company had been designed as a start-up partnership committed to producing high-quality coco peat products for use in nurseries, gardening, and potting media. The founders aimed to deliver superior value to customers while ensuring fair and sustainable returns for present and future stakeholders. This idea had emerged in response to a clear market gap, as coco peat products were largely imported despite high domestic demand within Tanzania. The proposed company had intended to provide locally produced, high-quality alternatives at competitive prices, while also offering extension services to support agricultural productivity. At that stage, the mission of CACL had been to deliver reliable, quality services that met customer expectations, while its vision had been to become a leading agricultural company in Tanzania in coco peat production and advisory services.
However, due to limited financial support and insufficient backing from key stakeholders within the agricultural value chain, the proposed venture was not executed. As a result, the initiative remained inactive for some time. During this period, Mr. Andrea M. Kigeso and Mr. Mpombeye Cleophace advanced their professional engagement by joining the Pest Management Centre (SPMC), under Early Career Researcher Development Program (ECRDP) they gained practical experience and exposure in pest management and agricultural systems. At the same time, Mr. Krisogon Vitalis Shayo initiated HORT GERMINATE FARM (HGM), which operated as a non-registered enterprise during its early stages.
Hort Germinate Farm (HGM) focused on providing high-quality horticultural services, specializing in the production and supply of improved fruit seedlings. The enterprise was committed to delivering healthy, vigorous, and high-yielding planting materials suitable for diverse agro-ecological conditions, thereby supporting farmers, agribusinesses, and institutions in achieving sustainable agricultural productivity. Its portfolio included a wide range of fruit crops such as mango, avocado (Hass), orange, lemon, sweet lime, lime, pomelo, papaya (F1 hybrid), guava (red and white), soursop, sapodilla, pomegranate, cashew nut, cocoa, jackfruit, bilimbi, olive, passion fruit, tamarind, date palm, macadamia, coconut, apple, grapes, peach, star fruit, oil palm, and fig, all carefully propagated to ensure quality performance in the field. Over time, Hort Germinate Farm expanded its scope to include vegetable and spice seedlings, agricultural extension services, and greenhouse design and installation, strengthening its contribution to the horticultural sector.
In October 2025, the original concept conceived in 2019 was revisited by the founders. Through renewed discussions and shared commitment, they resolved to establish a fully registered agribusiness company that would actively contribute to the agricultural value chain. In early January 2026, this vision was realized with the formal establishment of AgriScape Innovations Company Limited (ASI Co. Ltd.), a private agribusiness company duly incorporated in the United Republic of Tanzania under the Companies Act, 2002 (Cap. 212), operating in full compliance with all relevant regulatory and licensing requirements.
Since its establishment, ASI Co. Ltd. has provided a comprehensive portfolio of integrated agricultural services. These include horticultural services such as gardening and the production of both grafted and non-grafted fruit and vegetable seedlings alongside the design and installation of drip irrigation systems and the construction of greenhouses. The company also offers farming and agricultural advisory services, as well as Field Practical Training (FPT) for agricultural students, farmers, and agripreneurs. In addition, ASI Co. Ltd. specializes in farm planning and field layout design, including soil testing, rainwater harvesting system design and installation, and aquaculture services such as pond design and construction. Its expertise further extends to the design and construction of livestock structures and other agricultural facilities, including greenhouses and shade structures, complemented by the supply of essential agricultural inputs. Through its progressive evolution, AgriScape Innovations Company Limited has remained committed to advancing sustainable agriculture, strengthening value chains, and delivering innovative and practical solutions to farmers, institutions, and agribusiness stakeholders.
From the initial conception of the idea in 2019 to the formal establishment of AgriScape Innovations Company Limited (ASI Co. Ltd.) in early 2026, a total of seven (7) years marked the journey behind its formation. This period reflects a progressive life history characterized by vision, resilience, practical experience, and strategic evolution from the unrealized COCO-AGRI COMPANY LIMITED (CACL), through hands-on engagement at the Pest Management Centre (SPMC) and the development of HORT GERMINATE FARM (HGM), to the eventual realization of a fully registered agribusiness company. These seven years represent not only the passage of time but also the accumulation of knowledge, skills, partnerships, and lessons that laid a strong foundation for AgriScape Innovations Company Limited to emerge as a dynamic and forward-looking enterprise committed to transforming the agricultural sector.
The foundation of AgriScape began at Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA), where three classmates envisioned transforming agriculture through innovation. This phase marked a transformative phase of growth, significantly strengthening practical knowledge, refining technical competencies, and expanding industry exposure.
